The New Kipor Generators

When looking for a suitable portable generator the name Kipor will not spring easily to mind!

Names like Honda and Yamaha will be familiar but not Kipor. This is a pity because Kipor generators are well built like a Honda but because they are new on the market you can buy them cheaper than a lot of the established names.

For example the popular Kipor IG1000 Watt Inverter Generator is around $499 an has an Amazon rating of four out of five stars and customers love them.

Kipor Generators For Camping

When using a portable generator whilst camping it's important to bear a few points in mind.

Firstly other campers don't appreciate being disturbed but some dirty, noisy and smelly generator that you've brought to power your TV.

These days people are not very tolerant of noise pollution in any form and it's highly likely you'll get kicked off the site for being a nuisance if you buy the wrong type of generator.

Fortunately modern gas generators like the Kipor are specifically designed to have a low noise footprint. They're not silent but at 7 metres you can hardly hear them making them ideal for this type of environment.

Power output is regulated by an inverter so running delicate equipment like computers and DSL modems won't be a problem.

Which Kipor Generator Should I buy?

For camping and RV use the model you buy depends on your expected usage. In other words how many appliances do you intend to run from the portable generator?

If you only want to charge 12V batteries maybe some lighting and a small TV then the Kipor IG1000 Watt Generator would probably suffice.

If on the other hand you want to run a large plasma TV a microwave, lighting and a hair dryer then 1000 Watts just isn't going to cut it and you may want to consider the Kipor IG2000 Watt generator.

Be aware though that the extra 1000 Watts comes at a premium an extra $300 so if you can manage with less power do it.

Kipor IG1000 1000 Watt Inverter Generator

At around $499 this portable generator not only looks good but gives great value for money has many useful features.

  • Light weight for easy transportation (30lbs)
  • Built in inverter for smooth power output
  • Smart throttle enabling this generator to consume less gas
  • Less exhaust
  • 1000 Watt output
  • 12Volt charge line included
  • Two tier noise dampening
  • Long running time
  • up to 8 times quieter than some rival generators

This small generator is lightweight, quiet and produces a clean and smooth electricity supply and will easily meet the needs of the average camper / RV use.

Kipor IG2000 2000-Watt Inverter Generator

This generator has all of the features of the IG1000 with the following major differences.

  • 2000 Watt output as opposed to 1000
  • $300 more expensive at $799
  • 18lbs heavier at 48 lbs
  • Slightly nosier
  • Higher petrol consumption

You therefore need to think carefully about how much you need the extra 1000 Watts. When camping how much power do you really need? At $300 more I'd be likely to take less electrical gear with me and rely on the smaller model to charge a pair of batteries

Really a piece of junk with no customer support.. Should tell both sides of the story. I had one for 4 months with less than 20 hrs and the motor blew apart.. No warrantee due to the fact I was not the original purchaser even with the fact it was bought brand new in the box. Honda transfers there warrantee
