Mcculloch Portable Generator

These petrol and diesel generators are designed for industrial or at home use.

The only portable camping generator they have is the Mcculloch 1,800 Watt gas powered inverter generator.

The rest of the mcculloch range aren't really suitable as camping generators due to their size although the Mcculloch FG400E is touted as portable I'd probably use it as an RV generator due to its substantial 2.6 kw output.

What Size Portable Generator Do You Need?

One of the biggest mistakes people make when selecting a generator portable or otherwise is getting one powerfull enough to run their electrical appliences.

In our mains powered homes we take for granted we can just plug anything in and it works. When running of a generator however things are different. Depending on it's maximum output it's fairly easy to create an overload and shut our generator down.

Generators are rated in Watts and the combined total of all the electrical appliences plugged into the generator must not exceed it's maximum rating.

For example a Lap Top computer drawing 100 Watts plus a small refridgerator drawing 500 Watts plus a colour 26" TV drawing 600 Watts (totalĀ  1200 Watts) would be fine on a 2,600 Watt generator but would cause a 1000 Watt generator to shut down

Are Mcculloch Generators Suitable For Camping

I don't really recommend these generators for anyone looking for a near silent generator for camping. If you take a look around you will find many of the big names like Honda who have specialised in this market,

There just isn't enough information available for me to recommend them too you. If you wish to take a look at them one of the best places I've found is Amazon they stock a fairly large range but finding a detailed description is difficult and customer reviews for most of the range is lacking.

My guess is this is a very specialised generator with off line agents selling them.

Alternative Portable Generators

Fortunately many alternatives exist with plenty of customer reviews to help you make an informed choice.

A newcomer on the market that is getting great reviews for noise reduction, size, weight and reliability is the Kipor. At around $500 great value for money and well worth a look if you're in the market for a camping or RV generator.
